첼로와 피아노를 위한 “십이지” 중 ‘개, ‘소’, ‘말’ (2022 개작)

우리는 자신이 태어난 해에 따라 저마다의 ‘띠’를 가지고 있다. 12동물 –쥐, 소, 호랑이, 토끼, 용, 뱀, 말, 양, 원숭이, 닭, 개, 돼지 –들로 이루어져 있는 이 ‘띠’는 생년월일과 연관 지어 운세를 점치는 등, 우리 생활 속 깊이 뿌리내리고 있다. 이 ‘띠’의 상징적인 수호신상인 12동물들은 저마다 다른 얼굴들을 가지고 있듯이, 음악적으로도 다른 모습으로 그려지며, 서로 다른 언어로 이야기한다. 첼로와 피아노를 위한 이번 연주에서는 십이지의 열두 동물 중 3개(개, 소, 말)의 띠를 선택하였다. 이 세 작품 하나하나는 사주와 관련된 띠의 일반적인 특징뿐 아니라 각 동물의 특징과 이미지 그리고 띠에 해당하는 실제 인물들을 생각하며 작곡된 복합적인 요소들로 이루어졌다. ‘충성’의 상징인 ‘개’는 반복되는 지속저음 위에서 리듬과 선율이 반복되며, ‘풍요’의 상징인 ‘소’에서는 안정된 저음역의 화음과 함께 화성적 선율을 이루어 나간다. ‘추진력’의 상징인 ‘말’에서는 갤러핑 스텝으로 달리는 말의 모습이 끊임없는 증4도 관계로 표현된다.

Dog, Cow and Horse from Zodiac sign for Violoncello and Piano(2022 revision) We each have our own 'Zodiac sign' according to the year we were born. The 12 animals – Mouse, Cow, Tiger, Rabbit, Dragon, Snake, Horse, Sheep, Monkey, Chicken, Dog and Pig – are deeply rooted in our lives, with fortune-telling linked to the date of birth. The 12 animals, the iconic guardian deities of this 'Zodiac sign', are depicted in different musical ways, as each has different faces, and speak in different languages musicals. In this performance for cello and piano, three of the twelve zodiac animals (Dog, Cow, Horse) were chosen. In the first piece(Dog) the faithful nature of the dog is characterized by a repetitive bass line that moves steadily in dotted quarter notes underneath an animated and syncopated tarantellastyle melody in 12/8 meter. The second piece Cow reflects the reticent, calm nature of the cow through its slow rubato tempo and harmonies that are partially or completely parallel in nature ; when stated sequentially with a certain degree of chromaticism, these harmonies lend an almost impressionistic air. The third piece Horse has a distinctive unaccentedaccented anapestic rhythm that compliments the capricious nature of the horse, along with a polarity of pitches spaced a tritone apart.
